Who We Are

In the summer of 1994 a group of Albany community members led by Sally Outis joined together with a goal of creating an education foundation in Albany.  This organization would be formed to actively solicit additional resources to support and enhance educational programs and opportunities in the Albany Schools.

After a year of hard work, the articles of incorporation were filed, the tax exemption application was approved and the Board of Directors was organized.

This Mission Statement was adopted in August 1995: The Albany Education Foundation seeks to provide to Albany public schools additional resources to support and enhance educational programs and opportunities.  AEF is an independent community based nonprofit organization.

Over the past 22 years, the scope of grants awarded by AEF has grown.  Grant recipients include all school sites and grade level from TK through high school.  Individual teachers can apply for grants to enhance their classroom program or for field trips.  During the year as special opportunities arise, teachers can apply for Sally Outis block grants for multi-grade or multi-site activities.  All new teachers are welcomed to AUSD with a check for classroom supplies and a treat filled goodie bag.

AEF has several fund raising strategies.  The Update is sent to all Albany addresses to highlight the previous year’s donors and grants.  The enclosed donation envelope encourages a monetary return.  Little Star Pizza is our premier business sponsor giving a percentage of sales on the first Monday to AEF.  The Chocolate and Champagne Gala our biggest fund raiser began in 2010.  This is a partnership with the Albany Community Foundation and has become a much anticipated event for the community and includes a silent auction, beer and wine and of course decadent desserts and champagne.

A favorite activity in the spring is the Scoops for Schools, a thank you to the community for their continuing support of AEF.  Attendees are entertained by Albany’s outstanding music students while enjoying ice cream served by “celebrity scoopers”.

AEF has benefited from the work of many community members, serving in the role of board members, mentors, and donors since its inception.  The support of AUSD especially the teachers cannot be overlooked as it is by joining together the students benefit from the work of AEF.
